From January 2001 until May 2001, Bob Mueller served as the Acting Deputy Attorney General for the Department of Justice. Previously, Bob was U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California in San Francisco and Chief of the Homicide Section of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
In 1990, he was named Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice. Previously, Bob was an assistant to Attorney General Richard Thornburgh in the Department of Justice, and from 1986 to 1987 he served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.
He held various positions as a prosecutor and supervisor and also had experience in the private practice of law. Bob was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
